INTEGRATED TRIBAL DEVELOPMENT PROGRAMME (IFS)

Integrated Farming System is a resources management strategy to achieve economic and sustained agricultural production to meet diverse requirement of the farm households while preserving the resource base and maintaining high environmental quality. Integrated farming is a farming system with simultaneous activities involving crop and animal. The main purpose of the integrated farming is that the farming components support one another; hence, reducing external inputs. For instance, the crop can provide as animal feed/fodder for the livestock, and the wastes by livestock as fertilizer (manure) for the crop. Some of the livestocks can also act as weed control by foraging on the weeds. This mixed farming system recycles all wastes so that little is thrown away: one’s waste is indeed another’s food. This project is being implemented with the support of NABARD at Kuchinda Block of Sambalpur district under TDF. The PIA (SARC), aims to cover 19 villages in a cluster of 6 GPs of the same block under this programme.

SKILL DEVELOPMENT AMONG WOMEN & YOUTH

Economic empowerment and skills development among women is one of the most urgent and effective means to drive progress on gender equality, poverty eradication, and inclusive economic growth. Despite growing evidence of the positive outcomes of young women’s economic empowerment, young women continue to experience unequal access to education and skills development and face barriers in securing decent employment and opportunities to thrive as entrepreneurs. Young women’s access to resources, including land and loans, may be restricted by discriminatory laws, continue to shoulder an unequal share of unpaid care work due to the persistence of traditional gender roles. To increase access to decent employment and entrepreneurial opportunities, SARC has beencontinually focusing on skill development, vocational training to youths, women and SHGs member through Micro Enterprise Development Programmes (MEDP), Livelihood Enterprise Development Programmes (LEDP) by providing short term and long term training to more then 3000 youth and women in Sambalpur and Deogarh district.

CLIMATE RESILIENT AGRICULTURE, LITERACY AND NRM

Climate change impacts on agriculture are being witnessed all over the world, but countries like India are more vulnerable in view of the huge population, dependent on agriculture, excessive pressure on natural resources and poor coping mechanisms. The warming trend in India over the past 100 years has indicated an increase of 0.60°C. The projected impacts are likely to further aggravate yield fluctuations of many crops thus, impacting food security. There are evidences already of negative impacts on yield of wheat and paddy in parts of India due to increased temperature, increased water stress and reduction in number of rainy days. Enhancing agricultural productivity, therefore, is critical for ensuring food and nutritional security for all, particularly the resource poor small and marginal farmers who would be affected the most. In the absence of mitigation and adaptation strategies, the consequences of long-term climate change could be even more severe on the livelihood security of the poor. To address the challenges, SARC with the support of NABARD has already initiated “Climate Literacy” Campaign through plantation activity by conducting Climate Literacy Campaign, work shop, meeting, interaction & mass plantation drive in and around Sambalpur & Deogarh Districts. During the last 5 years we have planted 35000 Cashew, 12000 Mango and 100000 forest Spices like, Neem, Karanj, Teak, Sishu, Gambhari etc under the WADI project along with 7500 fruit bearing plant under SBI, PAN INDIA CSR ACTIVITY in Sambalpur, Bargarh, Bolangir, Jharsuguda, Angul & Sundergarh District. Besides this, we have taken up crop diversification programmes under Megalift Irrigation in 2700 Acres of Kuchinda block by taking climate resilient crops and vegetables for economic empowerment of the farmers.
